Saw palmetto is a small palm tree native to the southeastern United States. Its berries were a staple food and medicine for the Native Americans of that region. Saw palmetto is used to help ease urinary symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate gland, as well as for chronic pelvic pain, decreased sex drive, and hair loss.
Saw palmetto is used in health supplements today to promote normal prostate function and to help mitigate hair loss.
