Ingredient Type: Botanical
Also Known As: Aloe barbadensis, Aloe, Burn plant
Aloe vera is a commonly found plant that can be traced back 6,000 years to early Egypt, where it was depicted on stone carvings. It is known as the “plant of immortality,” and it was presented as a funeral gift to pharaohs. Two substances from aloe vera, the clear inner gel and the yellow latex, are used in health products. Aloe gel is primarily used topically to soothe skin and promote healing, but it is also used internally for its healing effects in the mouth and digestive tract.
Aloe vera is used in health supplements today to soothe the tissues of the digestive tract and to support regular elimination.
