Chicory is a perennial plant from the dandelion family. It is native to Europe, India, and Egypt where it was used as a food and an herb, but it is now commonly found in North America, China, and Australia. The Native American Cherokee used it in a nerve tonic. In German folk medicine it was used for digestive health and topically to help with cuts and bruises.
Chicory is used in health supplements today to promote digestive health.
