Cornsilk is the common name for the shiny, thread-like fibers found in ears of corn.  It contains proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and fiber.  It is used in herbal medicine to promote urination by soothing congestion in the urinary tract, and as an inhibitor of melanin production to help with infection.

Cornsilk is used in health supplements today to help promote healthy bladder and urinary system functions.

In the meantime see the RXList entry for corn silk or the WebMD entry for corn silk for more information.
