Slippery Elm

Also Known As: Ulmus rubra, Ulmus fulva 

The inner bark of the slippery elm tree is rich in mucilage, a substance that becomes gel-like when mixed with water.  It has been used traditionally to comfort irritation of mucous membranes, including the intestines.
