Horsetail is a perennial plant native to Europe, North America, North Africa, and Northern Asia.  It was used in ancient Greek and Roman eras for its astringent properties, to relieve swollen tissues, and to promote urination.

Horsetail is used in health supplements today as a source of silica, which nourishes hair, skin and nails, and to support the function of the urinary tract.
