Folic acid is a B vitamin that helps the body produce and maintain new cells. It is found in leafy green vegetables, fruits, yeast, mushrooms, and organic meat.
Folic acid is used in health supplements today during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects in babies. It also works with other B vitamins to reduce homocysteine in the blood, which is a risk for cardiovascular disease.
