Vitex is the fruit of the chaste tree, which is native to Central Asia and the Mediterranean region. It got its name from the belief that it promoted chastity, and it was used by monks in the Middle Ages to decrease sexual desire.
Chasteberry is used in health supplements today to promote hormonal balance in women and to normalize menstrual cycles.
